Working in Hotels Around Lake Garda, Italy

🇫🇮 Lue suomeksi

Working in a hotel in the Lake Garda area means being surrounded 24 hours a day by green mountains, blue water that changes color depending on the weather, and, especially in the northern part of the lake, countless lemon and olive trees.

Kylä Gardalla

As the largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda attracts millions of visitors every year. The hotel season usually starts around the end of March (often a week before Easter) and continues until the end of October or even the beginning of November.

Seasonal employment offers opportunities both for local residents and for people coming from other parts of Italy, particularly from the south, such as Sicily or Naples, who see it as a chance to earn a better income.

Many employees enjoy the experience so much that they return the following year, often with greater responsibilities, either to the same hotel or to a different one.

Having worked several summer seasons myself as a Front Office Shift Leader and Front Office Manager, I have had the opportunity to meet colleagues and guests from many different countries and cultures.

Accommodation is often provided by the employer if needed. In most cases it is shared accommodation, although employees in supervisory or management positions may sometimes be offered a private room. Naturally, this depends on the employer and the availability of housing.

Reception shifts typically run from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., usually with a half-hour lunch or dinner break. Many hotels also provide parking spaces, bicycles, or even scooters for their employees.

For reception positions, a basic knowledge of English and German is generally required. Knowing some Italian is considered a significant advantage and can make it easier to find employment. Housekeepers and waitstaff are also in high demand throughout the season.

The best way to find open positions is directly through hotel websites, especially those of four- and five-star hotels. Jobs can also be found through recruitment agencies and local job advertisements. The areas of Alto Garda and Val di Ledro are among the most popular destinations and become very busy during the tourist season.

In their free time, hotel employees often gather together, meet in local pubs, enjoy drinks, listen to music, spend time at the beach, or explore nearby towns and attractions.

Lake Garda also offers excellent transportation options, including public ferries and private boats. Motorboats can be rented even without a boating licence in certain cases.

Working in the Lake Garda region is a highly enriching experience. Besides gaining valuable professional skills, you also discover Italian culture, local traditions, and a unique way of life. Although many villages are relatively small, the contrast between the number of residents and tourists during the season is remarkable, and people from all over the world are welcomed to work here.

Best, Tanja
